Gerardo Porteny Backal

Gerardo Porteny Backal is the Founder and CEO of Grupo EducatHion, his educational efforts are focused on developing digital learning centers which provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their professional and personal lives.  He co-founded and leads 21 online schools and universities, including Monedu (Personal Finance), Proyecto Yo (Life Management), and Nano MBA (Business). He has co-developed educational content in partnership with academic institutions like the National Financial Educators Council, tech companies such as Croquetero, organizations like the International Project Management Association, and universities such as Universidad Anahuac.

Gerardo presides Young Minds for Gender Equality 501c3 a non governmental organization which he founded in 2015. He previously served as UN Women Global Consultant on Youth where he co-developed and implemented the HeForShe global solidarity movement. From 2010-2014 he served as CEO of Pink Life Against Breast Cancer A.C. a Mexican non profit organization he founded at age 16.

Gerardo has been recognized by a wide array of organizations. The most recent one is the Global Forum for Education and Learning that named him one of the 100 Global Visionaries of Education. Easter Seals Foundation gave him the Millennial Leadership Award, CNN Expansión named him a 30 under 40,  he was recognized as a Global Peace Ambassador in the Mexican Senate. He also received the International Financial Education Program of the Year award for his work with Monedu. Gerardo is a globally sought after speaker with 4 TEDx talks and keynote speeches and lectures around 5 continents.

Gerardo has a corporate law diploma from Oxford University and has earned the CORe certification from Harvard Business School, he also has a B.A. Magna Cum Laude in Individualized Studies focused on Education Technology minoring in Social Entrepreneurship at the Gallatin School of Individualized Studies (NYU) where he was granted the Founders Day Award. Gerardo has taken every single course that EducatHion has developed and is a life-long learner with a mission to democratize education through technology.
