DIY “I Am” Poem

At Global G.L.O.W., when we are not reading poems by fierce woman poets, we’re writing them.

In this post you will:

1. Learn one of Global G.L.O.W.’s signature activities, the “I am Poem”
2. Read sample poems written by girls from some of our Southern California programs
3. Have the chance to write your own “I Am” Poem

There are many variations of the “I Am” poem— our version is a simple 10 line, 4 stanza poem meant to inspire and guide the writer on the way to discovering their authentic, ever-evolving self, as well as help build a community of trust and belonging.

We have found that oftentimes girls feel shy speaking in front of groups and finding the words to express themselves. This activity helps girls build their emotional vocabulary and explore their voice in a fun, creative way.
