Honor Someone Special This Holiday Season

2018 has been quite a year for us at Global G.L.O.W. We’ve had the opportunity to visit some of our partners at Glow Clubs around the world, meet new friends and supporters locally and abroad, and we began piloting our newest initiative, Healthy Glow. In addition to each of these things, one of our favorite moments this year was the Global HerStory Summit in New York City.
While it was inspiring to guide HerStory participants as they worked on their plans to bring change to their local communities, the thing that most stood out to us was witnessing the encouragement the girls offered one another and seeing the friendships they forged over the course of just five days. Each of the girls came from opposite corners of the world, bringing with them very different cultures, languages and unique challenges. Even still, they supported one another in the most beautiful way. They celebrated each other and showed what acceptance truly means. And we stood beside them — to listen to their needs, support them emotionally and help them gain the confidence to use their voices to create a better future for us all.
This is why this in-honor piece commissioned by Maia Faddoul is so powerful and important to us. Mentorship and support is the foundation that our programs are built on, and that is represented so beautifully here. It is imperative now more than ever that we stand together to break down barriers.
Maia was the perfect person to commission this piece. As an artist and girl-advocate herself, Maia has a diverse background, having been born to an Argentine mother and a Lebanese father. She is one of three daughters born to a lifelong social justice-warrior mother, and her upbringing was heavily rooted in core intersectional female values, which have shaped not only her personality but also her career. As a creator, she finds the most reward in working with clients and companies that share her values and beliefs, this has led her to collaborate with a variety of great non-profits as well as women’s organizations, all in the hopes of using her talent and creativity to help, inspire, and bring more visibility and power to young women and misrepresented groups across the globe.
